Product Overview

By Archimandrite Vassilios Papavassiliou

Many laypeople have attempted to read the great spiritual classic, The Ladder of Divine Ascent, but have been frustrated in attempting to apply the lessons of this monastic text to their everyday lives in the world. In Thirty Steps, Archimandrite Vassilios interprets the Ladder for the ordinary Christian without sacrificing any of its beauty and power. Now you too can accept the challenge offered by St. John Climacus to ascend closer to God with each passing day.

About the Author: Vassilios Papavassiliou is an Orthodox Christian living in the Czech Republic. He was born in London in 1977 and holds degrees in pastoral and social theology, classics, and Byzantine music. He is the author of Ancient Faith Publishing’s Meditation Series (Meditations for Advent, Meditations for Great Lent, Meditations for Holy Week, Meditations for Pascha, and Meditations for the Twelve Great Feasts) and Thirty Steps to Heaven: The Ladder of Divine Ascent for All Walks of Life. He is also the editor of the Ancient Faith Prayer Book.

An excellent guide to The Ladder

Posted by Ian (patron saint John Climacus) on Mar 25th 2024

It can be hard translating St John's excellent words to life in the world and this book helps greatly in applying his teachings to someone not living a monastic life. I am only a few steps in but I have profited greatly from Vassilios Papavassiliou's words and insights, and have gained a better appreciation of how I may climb the Ladder of Divine Ascent.

Simplified Version of the Ladder of Divine Ascent

Posted by Elizabeth W. Riggs on Aug 7th 2022

Generally, I don't read simplified versions of the works of the Saints. In this case, however, I find it both very accurate and understandable. I particularly recommend this to those of us who are not Theologians or students of the writings of the saints,
